Designing with light: How collaborations elevate interiors
At Elementa, we believe lighting isn’t just an accessory — it’s what transforms a design from beautiful to extraordinary. Our recent collaboration with Morph Collective’s Light & Lives team demonstrates how the right partnerships create spaces that truly come alive.
1. Let’s start from the beginning – what is the story behind Morph Collective in the U.A.E.?
Morph: Morph Collective was formed as a result of the need for a super supplier with the expertise to handle multiple disciplines in a project and provide a balanced solution for budget, aesthetics, and technical performance.
This vision resulted in the formation of entities such as Light & Lives, Counterculture, Morph X, and Experience (un)real, specialised in lighting, furniture, automation and spatial experiences respectively.
2. Which division of Morph Collective is collaborating with Elementa?
Josephine, Elementa: Our key collaboration is with Light & Lives. Lighting design is a discipline of its own — one that doesn’t just complement interiors, but elevates them. With their expertise, we create environments where atmosphere, aesthetics, and functionality strike the right balance. For us, lighting is where design comes alive, shaping mood, defining spaces, and highlighting every detail that makes a project unique.
3. Why is lighting design so crucial to interior spaces, especially in the Middle East?
Morph: Lighting is the unifying language that brings architecture and interiors together. In the Middle East, where storytelling and visual impact are at the heart of design, lighting becomes even more essential. It frames artworks, softens textures, and creates a sense of luxury. Done right, it doesn’t just enhance the space — it is the art.

4. What did you look for in choosing Light & Lives as a partner?
Josephine: From the start of every project, we involve lighting specialists. Their expertise is vital — whether for architectural or decorative lighting. For example, in our Woodland Terraces project, where we designed 70 apartments plus all public spaces, their early input was crucial. They help us anticipate site restrictions, think through every possibility, and ensure solutions that are both beautiful and practical.
We’ve also been impressed by the Morph Collective team’s collaborative spirit. They are flexible, open-minded, and fully integrated into our design process. The result is lighting that feels embedded, not added.

5. What are some unique challenges of lighting design for residences and hospitality?
Morph: Coordination is one of the biggest challenges — aligning interior layouts, ceiling services, and MEP requirements seamlessly. Flexibility is another. Spaces evolve over time, and lighting needs to adapt without losing its intent. In hospitality especially, lighting must balance functionality with mood, ensuring a timeless experience that adapts to operational changes.
6. Can you tell us about the creative process behind Elementa’s own office lighting?
Morph: For Elementa’s office, we wanted to move beyond conventional spotlights. Trimless downlights were chosen for their minimal, contemporary feel, delivering strong technical performance while keeping ceilings visually clean. Decorative pendants with fluted glass and brushed metal add character to open areas, balancing refinement with raw, modern appeal.

7. Tell us more about Light & Lives’ product approach.
Morph: Our portfolio spans 300+ international brands, carefully curated to align technical performance with aesthetic language. At the same time, our bespoke department allows for one-off pieces — whether that’s a material-specific wall light or a large-scale installation. Every project is unique, and we design with that in mind.
8. How do collaborations like this reflect Elementa’s design philosophy?
Josephine: In Dubai, clients expect truly bespoke interiors — and we embrace that expectation. While we value Morph Collective’s iconic pieces, we also develop custom solutions, such as statement chandeliers tailored to a client’s home. Each collaboration reflects our philosophy: blending artistry with functionality, and ensuring every space feels one-of-a-kind.

Conclusion: Light as the final layer of design
Our collaboration with Morph Collective’s Light & Lives demonstrates how lighting is not just a technical detail, but the defining layer that elevates every design. It’s the element that brings atmosphere, depth, and character to a space — and when done with precision, it transforms interiors into living works of art.
